FRP Composite Grating (molded and pultruded)
FiberStrong Composites offers both molded grating (DURAGRATE®) and pultruded grating (DURADEK® and DURAGRID®). All gratings are made exclusively in the U.S.A. While molded grating is a chemical resistant flooring choice for many industrial applications, DURAGRATE® offers performance and quality superior to imported suppliers. DURADEK® and DURAGRID® Pultruded Grating can be used like traditional metal grates or fiberglass molded grating but offers the inherent benefits of pultrusion.
FiberStrong Composites offers more than 100 different FRP grating series to meet a variety of customer needs. Applicable to both DURAGRID® pultruded and DURAGRATE® molded grating, the following advice will help select the most appropriate grating series for an application. With many geometric, material, assembly, and finishing options, FRP grating is able to meet the needs of nearly any application.

DURAGRATE® Molded Grating
DURAGRATE® molded fiberglass grating is a premium-quality mesh grating panel made exclusively in the U.S.A. While molded grating is a chemical resistant flooring choice for many industrial applications, DURAGRATE® offers performance and quality superior to imported suppliers.
DURAGRATE® molded fiberglass grating weighs significantly less than metal gratings while a high resin content provides excellent corrosion resistance which requires very little maintenance. A high glass content offers greater stiffness and strength resulting in a higher safety factor.
DURAGRATE® panels are molded in one piece and feature a concave nonslip walking surface. Grit tops are available upon request. The panels allow for efficient on-site cutting to minimize grating waste. Load bearing bars in both directions allow for use without continuous side support.

DURADEK® Pultruded Grating
DURADEK® is high strength pultruded lightweight bar grating made exclusively in the U.S.A. that can be used like traditional metal grates or fiberglass molded grating but offers the inherent benefits of pultrusion. DURADEK® is an ideal replacement for steel, aluminum, or molded fiberglass gratings anywhere frequent grating and walkway replacement costs are unacceptable.
DURADEK® is stocked and available with bearing bars in 1" or 1-1/2" thick I-shapes or a 2" thick T-shape. 1" and 1-1/2" thick panels can be purchased in 3'x10', 4'x8', 4'x12', 5'x10', 3'x20', 4'x20' or 5'x20' sizes. 2" thick panels can be purchased in 4'x12', 5'x10', 3'x20', 4'x20' or 5'x20' sizes.
All sizes are available with a flame retardant polyester or vinyl ester resin system with bearing bars in a light gray or yellow color. All panels offer cross-rods spaced 8" on center and are either light gray (polyester) or black (vinyl ester).
The 3-piece cross-rod assembly used in DURADEK® grating forms a strong, unified panel that can be cut and fabricated like a solid sheet and can be easily cut and modified to fit almosy any requirement. This unique system consists of two continuous, pultruded spacer bars and a center core wedge. The resulting panel can be easily fabricated with standard carpenters’ tools with abrasive cutting edges.

DURADEK® Accessories include - Panel Hold Downs (stainless saddle clips and insert clips), Panel Connectors (generally only used at midspan to assist in transferring load from section to section) and Curb Angle (strong firm base for bearing bars).
Comparing DURAGRATE® and DURADEK®
DURAGRATE® and DURADEK® are both high quality, USA made gratings to serve your needs. However, there are instances where one grating type (molded vs pultruded) is a better option.

DURAGRID® Custom Pultruded Grating
DURAGRID® is high strength pultruded bar grating made exclusively in the U.S.A. that can be used like traditional metal grates or fiberglass molded grating while offering the inherent benefits of pultrusion. DURAGRID® is an ideal replacement for steel, aluminum, or molded fiberglass gratings anywhere frequent grating and walkway replacement costs are unacceptable.
DURAGRID® custom grid or grating systems are designed to accomodate specific applications that cannot effectively be met by a standard fiberglass grating. DURAGRID® offers options such as selection of open space, bar shape, cross-rod placement, custom fabrication, custom resin or color
The unique cross-bar construction of DURAGRID® allows the panels to be easily cut and modified to fit almost any requirement. A wide variety of bearing bar shapes along with various bearing bar and crossrod spacings are available depending on the design requirements.
Options:
DURAGRID® is also available in Heavy Duty Grating (HD) and Phenolic Grating. The solid individual bearing bars of the HD grating are designed to take heavy wheel traffic such as fork lifts, tow motors and truck traffic. Phenolic Grating is often used in the oil and gas industry because of its increased fire and smoke performance. Phenolic Grating, compared to typical polyester, vinyl ester and epoxy FRP products, offers major improvements in reduced smoke density, reduced smoke toxicity and structural fire integrity when exposed to fire.
Bar Profile and Grating Series:
The traditional “I” bar shape provides maximum flexibility in design. It is available in 1", 1-1/4", and 1-1/2" depths. The “T” bar shape provides a more solid walking surface, generally used for pedestrian applications. It is available in 1", 1-1/2" and 2" depths. The Economy series offers a lighter weight T-shaped bearing bar. The HD is available in 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 1-3/4", 2", 2-1/4" and 2-1/2" depths.
Panel Shapes and Sizes:
Panels can be made to exact sizes to eliminate waste and fabrication costs in the field. The maximum panel weight is 500 lbs. and the maximum panel size is 60" x 240".
Color:
The two standard bearing bar colors are light gray or yellow; the two standard cross rod colors are light gray (polyester) or black (vinyl ester). Other bearing bar colors can be quoted upon request.
Resin Selection:
The standard polyester resin used in DURAGRID® is fire retardant and meets the requirements for a Class 1 flame rating of 25 or less per ASTM E-84 and meets the self-extinguishing requirements of ASTM D-635. The resin also contains a UV inhibitor. DURAGRID® offers a wide selection of resin options including polyester, vinyl ester, phenolic, modar, etc. Other options feature UV inhibitors, various colors and specialized additives.
Surface and Texture:
Grids can be ordered with or without an anti-skid grit surface. A variety of grit material and textures can be ordered.
DURADEK® and DURAGRID® gratings are lightweight and, therefore, easily handled in installation, and cost less to ship than steel grating. A patented 3-piece cross-rod system mechanically locks and chemically bonds the cross-rods to the web of each bearing bar. This separates and affixes bearing bars firmly in position and distributes concentrated loads to adjacent bars. The system allows DURADEK® and DURAGRID® grating to be cut and fabricated like a solid sheet.

How to Order DURADEK® and DURAGRID® Gratings
When ordering DURADEK®, ensure the bearing bars for installation will be oriented in the correct direction for the application. Bearing bars shall traverse from support to support. Cross-rods are not intended to be applied in the span direction.

NOTE: Width is the measurement from end to end of the cross-rods. Length is always the bearing bar length. Panel Sizes Are Specified: Width x Length.

Nosing for Stair Treads and Landings
DURAGRID® pultruded stair treads and landings are produced by attaching a 2" deep nosing to the leading edge. This gives added strength and rigidity to the area that takes the most impact and abuse. In addition, the nosing provides more surface area for skid resistance, wear and better visibility. Light gray stair treads with yellow nosing are available at additional cost.
